How to Create Your Own Scotch Bar For Your Wedding
Above is our inspiration image from Pinterest. We want to show you how to create your own Scotch bar for your wedding We love the old-world style, florals, high-end scotch placements, and subtle decor that are on this Scotch bar. Let the Scotch speak for itself using its packaging and then add in glassware and decanters that you will keep on your home bar for entertaining long after the wedding is over. You may just want to register for these items in advance and use them on the wedding day. We’ll help you find all the pieces you need and give you some ideas on how to create your own scotch bar for your wedding, including scotch brands that will wow your guests.
1) Bar Carts With Wheels
Let’s start with finding the right bar cart for your wedding. Below in the left top corner, we found this one on Etsy for $85.00. The bronze metal and detail give it a mid-century vibe that we are loving. Below that there are two from Crate and Barrel, a brass one with leather wrapping – and a brass plated one with mirrored shelves. Both are a little more pricey coming in over $500, but make beautiful statement pieces for after the wedding is over. Moving on to the darker cart at the bottom left. This one is from Wayfair. The last two on the right are from Amazon. The bright gold one is a number one seller on Amazon and the smaller one on the bottom has several color variations. Here is a link to it from Amazon.
2) Decanters
Thank you Crate & Barrel for making shopping for decanters so easy. You have a great selection of spirit decanters all under $50. Each of these options would look amazing on your scotch cart. The combinations of a few of these would be very dramatic. Great opportunity for the Groom to pick his favorites. Top Left Elliott, Top Right Brixton, Bottom Left Spectrum, Bottom Right Hatch
3) Glassware
We found some of these classic rocks glasses to match some of the decanters above. Left Brixton, Top Right Hatch, Bottom Right: Ridgecrest
4) Scotch
You can’t have a Scotch bar without good scotch. Here are some of the best scotches to include on your bar cart. Note that you don’t need too many bottles. They can get pricey. Go with 4-6 bottles for your bar depending on your size wedding. One bottle will go a long way. We found our bottles at our local Total Wines & More and each is linked below. Once you have the Scotch add some candles and flowers and you are done!
From left to right:
McCallan 18 Year Sherry Oak Cask, Glenlivet 21 Year, Johnnie Walker Blue Label, Oban 14 Year, Laphroaig 10 Year Sherry Oak, Bruichladdich – The Classic Laddie, Lagavulin 16 Year, The Balvenie 21 Year Port Wood
Planning Tip
Have a “build your bar” party with your bridal party and close friends as a shower event and ask for a few of these bottles or build these into your planning budget and buy a bottle every few months until the wedding.
Happy Planning!

Learn How to Make a Charcuterie Board Like a Pro
Charcuterie boards are a must-have when throwing an event. They can be designed around any season or specific event and you can be as creative with them as you want. There are a lot of professional charcuterie board makers that will deliver and create a unique board or even a full grazing table for your event. Here in Seattle, we have found several talented cheeseboard makers that have successful businesses. Today we are featuring Grate Boards. Grate Boards not only has amazing boards that can be delivered to you, but they also have Art of Cheese classes so you can learn how to create your own. How fun is that? Check them out and support a local small business. They will not disappoint.
Grate Boards
Dimitria Hare-Michael is a Seattle-born native that loves entertaining and cheese. We love this combination too! Add some wine and we have a party! Dimitria created a business out of her passion called Grate Boards. She has so many amazing boards, we couldn’t pick our favorite. This harvest-themed board is so great for October and November birthdays or Friendsgiving. Do you love the added touch of the cheese letters?
The letters got us thinking about some other ways you could use a board with cheese numbers or maybe letters:
- Anniversary party or gift – use cheese numbers for the year.
- Employee birthday gift – send them a cheeseboard for that milestone birthday. You will crowned boss of the year for sure.
- Bridal shower with wedding date or maybe change numbers to initials. Also great for the morning before a wedding in the bridal suite.
- Backyard weddings – the numbers could be the table numbers showing guests to their seats.
- Friendsgiving fun. Have you been hosting Friendsgiving for a number of years? Highlight your board with the anniversary year of your party.
ART OF CHEESE CHARCUTERIE BOARD CLASSES
Want to learn how to make a cheese board yourself? @grateboards has instructional cheeseboard classes that will help walk you through the steps to create your very own cheeseboard. They’ll talk about food pairings, and where to get your supplies locally. Then they will help you style your own cheese board like a pro! Such a fun night with friends.
Grate Boards has private or public classes. Since we love wine with our cheeseboards we thought these upcoming in-person events that are happening at local Woodinville Wineries would be fun. *Note that these are selling out fast. Visit the links to get the most up-to-date status.

Fall Photography Tips
Seattle area photographers love fall weddings in Washington. We are so lucky to have gorgeous autumn tree colors mixed with luscious evergreens compared to many other states. Then as a bonus, we get more of nature’s landscape with backdrops of forests, lakes, beaches, rivers, and mountains. The romantic photos are endless.
When planning your fall wedding, think about photo opportunities that include pops of fall color. Luxe & Blue just visited a venue several months ago that was beautiful indoors but had limited options for outdoor picture creativity. If you dream of those fall trees and natural landscapes, look at venues that have it or that have it close by. Luckily you have selected or will select a photographer whose job it is to find these artistic areas at your venue and create for you. They may have already shot at that location before and know where the best places are and where the light hits just right. Ask them. But it doesn’t hurt to scope out the scene on your own and come up with your shot list preference.
First looks can happen more in nature at a location near your venue and then formal shots at the venue. For example, one of our Luxe & Blue brides wanted water pictures in addition to fall garden pictures. The bride and groom chose to have their first look by Lake Washington before heading to their venue with the fall garden setting.
Sarah Anne Photography, a seasoned pro in the PNW, took some stunning photos below highlighting the different fall tones in floral bouquets, backdrops, and venues. Who is ready for treehouse pictures? Sarah’s Instagram says she only has a few spots left for 2022. What are you waiting for?

LUXE Up Your Reception with Hand Made Farm Tables
Here at Luxe & Blue we love finding vendors that provide beautiful products for weddings and events. Today’s vendor is Seattle Farm Tables. They are not new to the Seattle event world; they have been around since 2011. This family-owned company handmakes each their beautiful rental tables. They are stunning and come in multiple styles to choose from. As you can see from the images below the impact these tables make on any event is worth every penny.
The dark barnwood 10′ tables are our favorite. We love the dark wood contrast it gives to a tented reception. Pricing per table is close to $100 (more if you are adding the bench seating). You can add different chairs to LUXE it up more or alternate between benches and chairs at different tables.

10 Things To Plan Now That You Are Engaged
Congratulations on your engagement! This is such an exciting time for you. We are going to help you start planning for the big day.
1) Create a budget
This is an important first step. You need to know how much money you have to work with before you can really get started. If your family has already offered to help financially then define exactly what that looks like. If you are planning on your own it’s a great time for you and your partner to take time to figure out how much you are willing to spend. We will have budget tools posted soon to help you get started.
2) Guest list and general location of the wedding
How many people do you want at your wedding? You’ll need the guest count in order to select an ideal venue. You can be as precise as you want about who is attending or set a max number of guests and scale back from there over time. How far are you willing to have your friends and family travel? Will you have a destination wedding or stay close to home? Get on the same page with your fiancé about these topics and it will streamline your planning.3) Wedding planner or day of coordinator?
If you are a busy couple and want help planning out your special day we recommend hiring a wedding planner. A planner will help identify venues and bring your vision to life. They typically have relationships with vendors that can save you money in the long run and guarantee quality. If you prefer to plan on your own, then a day of coordinator it’s not a priority to find one right now. Here is a planner we love from Amazon to help you keep track of all your wedding details.4) Pick a Venue (ceremony and reception)
Picking a venue is important to check off the list very quickly as the look and feel of your venue will drive most of your planning. With Covid-19 this year postponing so many 2020 weddings, be prepared to act quickly on available dates as most venues rescheduled 2020 weddings for 2021. That’s on top of all the couples who were already planning on 2021. We recommend calling for availability to get the most up to date information. Ask if you can place a hold so you don’t have to commit but can keep the search going. We will have a list posted soon on what to ask each venue so you can be as efficient as possible.5) Photographers
Since you have decided on a venue it’s a great idea to ask them who they recommend for photographers. You’ll get a list of photographers that have photographed at the venue. This is extremely valuable as they can really guide you to the best spots the venue has to offer. Another option is to search through local wedding resource guides. Here’s a PNW Resource Guide that is incredibly useful. From there go to their websites to compare. If you have friends that recently gotten married ask them if they would refer their photographer. You can look at their photos and also ask how they were treated. Be sure to select a photographer that understands you and can portray who you are as a couple in your photos. We will have a list posted soon on what to ask each photographer you are interviewing.6) Catering
Check with your venue on this first. They will recommend caterers for you or only have a certain list of caterers that are allowed. From there take that list and meet with each of them. Talk pricing and menu with them. Get an estimate at a certain price per head and then ask them to add in all fees so you have a good idea of out the door costs. Service fees and mandatory gratuities can sneak up on you. Factor it all in from the beginning. Also great time to talk about alcohol at the wedding. Can they provide full service or can you purchase your own to have served by their bartenders? If you can bring in your own watch out for surprising corkage fees. Estimate for 2-3 drinks per person. This will account for people who drink less and those that drink more.
7) Officiant
Because an officiant can’t be in two places at once you’ll want to start thinking about who will marry you and your fiancé. Is it a friend, family member, or religious figure? Check availability and meet with each person. You want to make sure you get along well with the person and that they understand what you want out of your ceremony. Ask for examples of their work. Do they have a video you can watch?8) DJ or Band
Another important vendor that typically can’t be at two places at once is your DJ or band. Will you want live music during the reception? Get examples from each band and ask for referrals. Think about what type of music you want and ask them for suggestions on genres that work best. For a DJ, ask if they MC as well. Nothing over the top, but you may want to be announced into the reception venue or announce the first dance or cake cutting.9) Schedule dress appointments
Dresses take a long time to order. Take a month and make appointments to see what is out there. Bring a friend or family member that can be honest with you while you try on dresses. You may already know what style you are looking for, but if not try several styles and see what looks best with your body type and vision for your wedding day. Get your dress choices down to your top three and then bring more family and friends. Make it an event with champagne and tissues. You’ll get great reactions and make a final decision. Once decided make your alterations appointments too.
10) Florist
Flowers set the tone for all your decorations. Again check with your venue on a list of preferred vendors and start there. Look at their portfolio and bring your Pinterest boards to show them ideas you like. It’s great to give away table centerpieces at the end of the night so all the beautiful flowers don’t end up in the garbage. Think about flowers for your bridal party, ceremony flowers that include guest book table, aisle decor, and a focal area during the vows. At the reception you’ll want flowers for centerpieces, the cake and gift tables, on the buffet table, and at the bar. Consider moving your ceremony flowers to the reception to save some money or alternating large and small centerpieces at your tables.FOLLOW US
